Collaborative Research Networks

Many of the challenges in research today require interdisciplinary teams with strong foundations in discipline-based research capabilities.

The Networks

Our Collaborative Research Networks (CRNs) cover strategic areas of study which are of worldwide importance.

The Networks are non-exclusive and span several academic schools. They have both internal and external functions in publicising what research can be done and what resources, facilities and skills are available at the University.

Some of the Networks are in areas with a strong heritage of collaborative working and others are pathfinders, for example, bringing the arts together with science and technology. Their output is being felt in:

  • New seminar series
  • Public lectures
  • Research collaboration meetings
  • Grand challenge workshops
  • Knowledge transfer opportunities
  • Innovative grant applications

We have set up nine CRNs, focused on important research themes, and four CRNs supporting the enabling technologies required for significant research.

Academic champions

Each CRN has an academic champion who dedicates part of their full-time role to leadership and coordination of the Network's activity.
